Sims Social: Consider Avoiding

Return to Guide Summary

If you encounter any information to add, please post or message me on Facebook: be sure to let me know if you want to be credited; if yes, I'll include a footnote with a link to your FB profile.

CONSIDER AVOIDING
  • Archways into rooms under construction: visiting Sims can get trapped.
  • Dunkin Donuts Coffee Machine: until glitch is fixed, the regular coffee maker is a better choice.
  • Duplicate Items: once you've mastered guitar and bought a new one, you can store the old one. Having doubles doesn't offer anything extra, causes loading time to increase, and often ends up blocking something. (Note from editor: I can't bring myself to follow this suggestion. My Sim loves her musical instruments, and it was all she could do to limit herself to 1 piano, 1 keyboard, 1 haunted organ, and 1 guitar. Artistic Sims often will have multiple items, especially if they still are working on their skills. The important point is not to let them block things.)
  • Empty bathroom counter space: neighbor Sims may wander all the way across the house, back and forth, to make Tapas, instead of using the counter right next to the stove. Go figure. Sims are flaky.
  • Excessive clutter: I'm not saying don't buy any decorative items, but try to keep from overdoing the non-clickables. Neighbors learn fast whose houses take forever to load and fill up their cache so they have to reboot their browser to continue the game, and they stop visiting. If you need decorations to increase your house value, you can buy and store them.  Here's a prime example of an "oopsie" house layout.
  • Inaccessible corners/spaces: make sure you don't have any spots, anywhere, that are completely enclosed. Neighbors can appear there and be trapped, unable to interact with your Sim (sometimes even full ninjas get stuck). Inaccessible corner example.
  • Puddles Ew. Who wants to visit a house with puddles of old (hopefully) water all over the place?
  • Weeds/wildlife: they not only make the house take longer to load but also may block important items or trap your neighbor!
